About us

An independent local charity supporting people in food poverty

Otley Foodbank began in 2015, when local people became concerned about food poverty in Otley.

Referrals usually come from a trusted local agency or professional who knows your situation.

It was originally started by people with links to local churches, but it has grown into an independent charity supported by volunteers from many different backgrounds. Otley Foodbank became a registered charity in 2022.

The charity exists to provide practical help to people who do not currently have enough money or resources to buy the food they need.

Over time, the Foodbank has supported people across Otley and nearby areas. We now focus our work on Otley and the LS21 area so that we can continue to operate sustainably and make sure local donations are used to meet local need.

Our support is delivered by volunteers. Some collect donations, some pack and organise food packages, some deliver to households, and others help coordinate referrals.

We believe food support should be offered with dignity, care and trust. Poverty can appear in many different forms, and we do not believe people should have to prove hardship beyond the referral process.
